Bechem United gave their Ghana Premier League survival hopes a significant lift after grinding out a hard-fought 1–0 victory over defending champions Bibiani GoldStars, returning to winning ways in a crucial encounter.

A first-half strike from veteran forward Augustine Okrah proved decisive, as the Hunters pulled further away from the relegation zone and claimed a morale-boosting result against one of the league’s title contenders.

Bechem United showed their intent from the opening whistle, piling early pressure on the Miners, who were also desperate for maximum points in their pursuit of league leaders Medeama SC.

The sustained pressure paid off in the 15th minute, when Okrah produced a moment of quality, finishing brilliantly to give the hosts a deserved lead and ignite celebrations at the Bechem Park.

Seven minutes later, Bechem were forced into an early change, with Emmanuel Sefah withdrawn and Foster Sakitey introduced.

Despite the disruption, the home side continued to look dangerous. A slick interchange between Emmanuel Abban and Okrah nearly resulted in a second goal before the break, but the champions survived to go into half-time only a goal down.

After the restart, Bechem United pushed for a second goal but failed to capitalise on several promising openings.

Bibiani GoldStars responded by increasing their attacking intent, bringing on Razack Sanou in place of Yakubu Haq as they searched for an equaliser.

In the closing stages, the visitors pinned Bechem back and threw numbers forward, but the Hunters defended with discipline and resilience, seeing out the game to secure all three points.

The victory provides a timely boost for Bechem United as they continue their fight to stay in the top flight, while GoldStars are left to reflect on a missed opportunity in the title race.

For the Hunters, Okrah’s decisive contribution could prove pivotal as the season reaches a critical stage.
