Asante Kotoko have officially presented their 2024/25 MTN FA Cup trophy to the life patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, following their hard-fought victory over Golden Kick FC in the final.
The Porcupine Warriors were crowned champions after edging the lower-tier side 2-1 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday. Kwame Opoku opened the scoring early for Kotoko, but Golden Kick responded through a stunning free-kick from Bless Ege, sending the game into the break level at 1-1.
Late drama unfolded in the second half when Kotoko were awarded a controversial penalty. Opoku stepped up once again and calmly converted to hand head coach Karim Zito’s men their 11th FA Cup title.
After arriving in Kumasi on Monday, June 16, the team visited Otumfuo on Wednesday, June 18, to present the trophy in recognition of his continued support for the club.
The delegation was led by Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, alongside Board Chairman Kwesi Appiah and Technical Director Malik Jabir.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II congratulated the players and technical team for their resilience and urged them to prepare thoroughly for their upcoming continental campaign.
With the FA Cup triumph, Asante Kotoko have secured qualification for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, where they will aim to make a strong impression on the African stage.
