Aduana Stars Chief Executive Officer Collins Atta Poku has urged Ghanaian football clubs to place greater emphasis on marketing themselves and their players, insisting that proper branding is key to attracting opportunities both locally and internationally.
Speaking in an interview with Luv FM, Atta Poku stressed the importance of building complete player profiles, including up-to-date photos and match videos, to make it easier for scouts and potential buyers to assess talent.
“We can’t be projecting ourselves at the expense of the club,” he stated.
The Aduana CEO revealed that poor documentation and visibility remain a major challenge within Ghanaian football, using his own club as an example from the past.
“Build the capacity of the players. I’m not even bluffing. A year ago, when I was part of management, if you googled players of Aduana FC, you wouldn’t find current pictures, and in some cases you wouldn’t find the players at all,” he explained.
Atta Poku noted that interested clubs and agents often begin their search on platforms such as Transfermarkt, before conducting deeper background checks.
“The person going onto Transfermarkt to look for a player will try to find pictures and videos. Even when you provide videos, he will still go behind you to do due diligence. How would he find it? You have to help the person find it, and that means taking it seriously,” he added.
Beyond player branding, Atta Poku also cautioned club officials against excessive public exposure, stressing the need to protect the image and interests of their clubs.
As part of efforts to improve visibility, he announced a planned media engagement session at the Prempeh College School Park, where journalists, bloggers, and social media influencers will interact with Aduana FC players and help showcase their profiles.
The initiative, according to Atta Poku, is aimed at enhancing player exposure, improving marketability, and ultimately creating more pathways for Ghanaian footballers to progress in their careers.
