Frederick Asare has officially parted ways with Asante Kotoko following the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to his two-year stint with the Kumasi-based giants.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who lost his place to Guinean international Mohammed Camara during the 2024/25 season, opted against renewing his deal after failing to reach a financial agreement with the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC).
Kotoko had expressed interest in extending Asare’s stay, but negotiations broke down due to discrepancies in salary expectations, prompting the former Accra Lions shot-stopper to walk away as a free agent.
Asare joined Asante Kotoko in 2022 after helping Accra Lions gain promotion to the Ghana Premier League. Despite showing early promise, he found first-team opportunities limited in the just-ended season, making only 15 league appearances, in which he kept seven clean sheets and conceded 12 goals.
He earned his maiden call-up to the Ghana senior national team in 2023 but is yet to debut for the Black Stars, having since dropped out of contention due to his reduced game time at club level.
According to sources at Kickgh.com, Asare and his representatives are exploring potential moves abroad, with interest reportedly coming from clubs in East Africa and Europe ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window. His departure adds to the expected squad shake-up at Kotoko, who are preparing for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
