Drama, disgrace, and a dose of GPL controversy—Nations FC are in hot water after their sensational walk-off against Holy Stars, and the Ghana Football Association isn’t pulling any punches.

The fiery encounter at the Ampain AAK II Arena, which was supposed to be a crucial clash in the race for annexing the league title and survival, ended in chaos when Nations FC players abruptly abandoned the match in the 33rd minute, citing dissatisfaction with officiating decisions—after the centre referee awarded a second penalty to Basake Holy Stars that they felt it was 'nonsensical'.

But if they thought walking off would spark sympathy, they’ve got another thing coming.

In a statement released on Tuesday the GFA's Disciplinary Committee came down hard on the Abrankese-based side, issuing a string of punitive sanctions, including:

Forfeiture of the match (3-0 awarded to Holy Stars)

Three points docked from Nations FC’s current league tally

A fine in the region of GH₵2,500

Potential suspensions for players and technical staff involved in the protest

The decision has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian football community, with fans split—some blasting the club’s actions as “unprofessional,” while others believe the officiating woes in the league deserve more scrutiny.

Nations FC, who were in contention for the league title, now find themselves in fifth spot with 57 points and must file any appeal within 24 hours of receiving the verdict.

Club officials have yet to issue a formal response, but sources close to the club suggest they are weighing an appeal.
