After a mixed 2024/25 campaign that left fans craving for consistency, Medeama SC’s head coach Ibrahim Tanko has fired an early warning shot ahead of next season, promising they will be coming back stronger, and this time, they mean business.
With Medeama having tasted league glory in 2023, the club concluded their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League run in 8th place with 50 points.
Speaking to Medeama's official portal, Tanko admitted the team fell short of expectations, but made it clear the rebuilding process is already underway.
“If we’d finished in the top four, I would have deserved it based on our home and away performance, but we fell short. So we are going to prepare for next season, not for the top four but for the league title itself.”
The former Accra Lions coach, who took charge of the Yellow and Mauves midway through the season, is expected to lead a massive reshaping of the squad.
Tanko will be working closely with the club executives to identify key targets in the transfer market, particularly in attack and defence, areas that faltered in crucial moments this past term.
“Massive changes, not, but we have to reassess the squad. Players who are surplus to requirements will be offloaded or put out on loan to create space for a few additional signings.
“We have good players, but adding more quality will make us a stronger team. So I will bring in a centre-back and a striker. The rest will come from the talented young players we already have in the squad,” he added confidently.
The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season is slated to kick off on September 26.
