Newly appointed Black Stars goalkeeping coach Daniel Gaspar has expressed strong confidence in the quality of goalkeepers in the Ghana Premier League after watching the clash between Hearts of Oak and Karela United.
The experienced Portuguese-American trainer, who officially began his role with the Black Stars on April 28, 2026, attended the match as part of an extensive talent assessment exercise ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after the game, Gaspar praised the level of talent on display and singled out some goalkeepers for special mention.
“I enjoyed Hearts of Oak versus Karela. A lot of talents on the field,” he told 3 Sports.
“Absolutely, Benjamin Asare is a good goalkeeper. He is part of the national team pool. Solomon Agbasi has got quality. We have some good goalkeepers in Ghana.”
Gaspar’s visit to the Pobiman Sports Complex on May 5 also included interactions with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and an assessment of the club’s training structures under technical director Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.
The former Iran national team goalkeeping coach is a long-time associate of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz and arrives with experience from four FIFA World Cups.
Gaspar is part of a revamped Black Stars technical team tasked with helping Ghana progress beyond the group stage at this summer’s World Cup tournament.
He also highlighted the quality of Solomon Agbasi, who recently earned a place in Queiroz’s 23-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico on May 22.
