Former Asante Kotoko supporters' chief, Christopher Damenya, believes the Porcupine Warriors were unfortunate not to secure a win in their 1-1 draw against Premier League debutants, Young Apostles, at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

Young Apostles took the lead in the 51st minute through Daniel Lomotey, but Emmanuel Antwi’s 79th-minute equalizer saved Kotoko from a defeat, allowing the home side to salvage a point. Despite dominating much of the game, Kotoko were unable to capitalize on their numerous chances, leaving the match level at the final whistle.

Following the game, Damenya urged the club’s supporters to be patient, acknowledging that Kotoko is still in the process of building a strong, competitive team for the season. He also pointed to the lack of finishing as a key issue in the match.

"The fans should be patient because we are now building the team. Luck eluded us against Young Apostles. We had a lot of chances but were unable to utilize them," Damenya said.

He further emphasized the need for the club to reinforce the squad with more clinical strikers to avoid future disappointments. "In football, you get punished when you squander chances. We need to beef up the team with clinical strikers going forward," he added.

Asante Kotoko, who failed to string together back-to-back wins after the draw, now turn their focus to their upcoming match against Berekum Chelsea as they aim to improve on their previous season's struggles.
