The Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Nana Apinkra has signaled a potential threat to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), announcing that they will continue to desist from all football activities.
The Porcupine Warriors held a crunch meeting with the GFA in Kumasi since the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Yaw Frimpong, known as ‘Pooley'.
Pooley's death has deeply affected the nation’s football fraternity, with Kotoko and Hearts of Oak putting aside their rivalry to lead an unprecedented call for reform.
The two most glamorous clubs have drafted a joint position paper demanding immediate and significant changes to matchday security, insisting that Pooley’s death should serve as a defining moment, galvanising all stakeholders into decisive action.
In response to the crisis, the GFA postponed all matchday 20 Premier League fixtures to allow for extensive consultations as they have met all 18 GPL club executives, fan groups and law enforcement agencies.
“As for the GFA, we already know you take us for granted, but from now on, whether you like it or not, you will respect us. Kotoko and Hearts cannot be ignored. All we are asking for are better security measures,” Nana Apinkra said during the meeting with the FA.
“Even today, if you respond to our proposals, we will play. But until then, count us out because we cannot sit back and watch another life lost."
