Former Ghana international Dan Quaye has publicly endorsed Hearts of Oak head coach Didi Dramani’s strategy of rotating the club’s goalkeepers, insisting the approach benefits both the players and the team.
In recent weeks, Dramani has alternated between first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and his deputy Solomon Agbasi, with both shot-stoppers delivering strong performances. Most recently, Asare, who had returned from injury in fine form, was rested for the weekend’s clash, allowing Agbasi to start in a pulsating goalless draw against the Hunters.
Agbasi responded with a commanding display, making several crucial saves to preserve a clean sheet and earn a valuable point for the Phobians. For Dramani, the rotation policy not only ensured consistent performances on the pitch but also reinforced his philosophy of internal competition as a key pillar of squad management.
Speaking to Bryt FM in Koforidua, Quaye — a former stalwart defender for Hearts — threw his full support behind the coach’s approach.
“Asare has established himself as Ghana’s number one goalkeeper. He has nothing to prove to earn a spot in the Black Stars. I fully support Didi Dramani’s rotation policy because Asare needs rest,” Quaye said.
He drew parallels with past experiences at Hearts, noting how goalkeepers like Sammy Adjei and Eben Dida thrived despite competing for the top spot.
“The rotation won’t be an issue for Hearts of Oak or the Black Stars. Asare cannot play every match. Solomon Agbasi has delivered solid performances and deserves opportunities,” Quaye added.
With both goalkeepers performing at a high level, Dramani’s rotation strategy appears set to continue, ensuring the Phobians maintain form while keeping key players fresh for both league and national team duties.
