Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association President (GFA) has issued a stern warning to 'underperforming and dishonest' Match Commissioners, boldly informing them that such individuals will be sacked as the domestic football governing body battles against hooliganism.
Okaku made this statement during a one-day training workshop for Premier League Match Commissioners on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 to equip them with the needed skills and required abilities to implement the newly enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols.
He warned Match Commissioners who fail to report eventualities and acts inappropriately will be sanctioned, as Match Commissioners have been accused of predominantly scheming with home teams and failing to report incidents correctly at match venues.
"We are here because of the passion and love we have for football. And we want to play a part on this journey towards making football what it's supposed to be. Play your part from here. Play your parts from here. Do a good job," he said
"We'll be very, very fair in assessing your work. Be honest. Those who fall below the line, unfortunately will leave us.
"When you hear the discourse in the public space, you would admit that all is not well. And if it is that we have the opportunity to cure what is seen not to be well, this is the most opportune time."
The workshop which took place at the GFA Conference Room in Accra, committed to enhancing matchday safety, protecting match officials, and ensuring smooth football operations across the country. It also had in attendance Referees Appointment Committee chairperson, Christine Enyonam Zigah, and GFA Safety and Security Committee member, Felix Bewu.
