The Black Satellites have reached the semis of the 2024 WAFU U20 Cup of Nations after finishing as winners of Group A.

Ghana booked themselves a ticket to the last four of the competition after a one-all draw in the final group fixture at the Stade Municipal on Wednesday evening.

Coach Desmond Ofei made only one change in his team that defeated Niger in their second game over the weekend as Collins Boah earned a starting berth as a replacement for Andrews Adjabeng.

The 2009 World Champions commenced the game on a good with an early lead through lanky attacker Jerry Afriyie in the second minute.

Afriyie increased his goal tally at the ongoing tournament to three when he brilliantly connected a pass from Misubau Aziz to hand the male national team of Ghana the deserving lead.

The Togolese made efforts to secure the equalizer before the break, but they got denied by goalkeeper Benjamin Twum and the backline of Ghana.

The Black Satellites also came close through attacking trio Hayford Adu Boahen, Misubau Aziz, and Jerry Afriyie, but their efforts were denied by goalkeeper Daouda Mihedo as the first half ended in a 1-0 lead for Ghana.

In the second half, Togo made a tactical substitution, which offered them more options upfront to mount pressure on the Ghanaians to concede before the hour mark.

EurAfrica sensation Ouzeroudine Kperedja leveled the score for the young Sparrowhawks of Togo when he magnificently scored a half volley to keep his side's hopes alive.

However, the Black Satellites stood resolute at the back to deal with every inroad and launched fearsome attacks on the Togolese, but they failed to make their chances count.

The two teams could be found guilty of failing to register the winner despite the goal glaring opportunities and set-pieces awarded to them in the last 30 minutes of the game, as it ended in a 1-1 stalemate at the Stade Municipal.

Following the results, Ghana has qualified to the semi-final with host nation, Togo, exiting the tournament with just three after securing a draw in all three games.

Ghana has advanced to the semis with Niger, who also defeated Benin 1-0 in the other Group A game played at the Stade Kegue in Lome.

Both nations will know their semi-final opponents after Group B final games tomorrow.
