Ghanaian attacker Jordan Ayew has soared to the top of the assists chart in the ongoing Africa's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round.
At the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium in Morocco, the Black Stars defeated Madagascar 3-0 on Monday night, and the Leicester City striker now leads the league with four assists in six games after recording a hat-trick of assists.
Thomas Partey's goals were assisted by Jordan Ayew through a corner kick and a free kick. He also helped Ghana defeat the Malagasy with a spectacular goal from Mohammed Kudus.
Prior to that, last Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium, Ayew helped set up Ernest Nuamah for Ghana's 5-0 victory over Chad. Jordan Ayew was on the scoresheet against the Chadians despite the assist.
Mohamed Salah, a striker for Liverpool and Egypt, has six goals to his credit and can increase it when Egypt plays Sierra Leone on Tuesday.
Ayew has played at the 2014 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and he is aiming to play at his third World Cup should Ghana qualify for the 2026 edition to be staged in United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Black Stars who now sit at the top of Group I will now shift their focus to their upcoming qualifiers in September, where they will face Chad away before hosting Mali in the Matchday 7 and 8 games of the qualifying campaign.
