Current African champions Cote D'Ivoire will receive a whooping cash prize of $7million after emerging as champions of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as promised by CAF prior to the commencement of the competition.
On home soil, the 'Elephants' achieved the 'host and win' after hugely coming from a goal down to edge West African neighbours Nigeria by 1-2 in the final last night at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpé.
The Super Eagles opened the scoring account on the 36th minute thanks to a towering header from captain William Troost-Ekong- who was subsequently adjudged the player of the tourney.
However, two stupendous display from Brighton youngster Simon Adingra changed the scenario completely in the second half with the Ivorians scoring two to turn things around.
Franck Kessie started the fightback with a brave header to level things up on the 62nd minute before Sebastian Haller scored a beauty with only nine minutes to full time to seal the victory.
The Elephants have now won the competition for the third time in their history having won in 1992 and 2015.
Due to the massive 40% increment in the prize money, Cote D'Ivoire will earn $7million as winners.
Runners up Nigeria will also take home $4million, South Africa and DR Congo will pocket $2.5million each for making it to the semis whiles all teams that made it to the last eight are also expected to receive $1.3million each.
