Young Africans, the Tanzanian champions, secured a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants of South Africa in the second leg of the semifinals.
Congolese striker Fiston Mayele scored a goal and provided an assist in an impressive display, sealing Yanga's victory with a 4-1 aggregate triumph. The team now awaits their final matchup against either USM Alger of Algeria or Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas.
The Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenberg hosted the intense second leg, with Gallants looking to overturn a 2-0 first leg defeat in Dar es Salaam.
Despite having some scoring opportunities, including a crucial save by Yanga goalkeeper Djigui Diarra in the 33rd minute, Gallants were unable to find the much-needed goal. Mayele took advantage of Gallants' failure to score, breaking through their defense and scoring just before halftime.
Mayele continued to showcase his brilliance in the second half, skillfully maneuvering the ball past a defender and delivering a cross for Kennedy Musonda to finish, doubling Yanga's lead.
Although Gallants managed to find a consolation goal in second-half stoppage time through Chivaviro, it was too little too late for them. Yanga's historic victory marks the first time in their history that they have reached the final of a CAF club competition.
