Medeama Sporting Club has decided to submit Cape Coast Stadium to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as their home venue for their inaugural CAF Champions League campaign.
Initially, the club had intended to use T and A Park in Tarkwa, but due to ongoing construction, the facility will not be ready in time to host the games.
As a result, Medeama has chosen Cape Coast Stadium, located in the Central Region, which has previously hosted various international matches, including those involving the Black Stars. Approval for the stadium is expected.
This decision by Medeama does not come as a surprise, as President Moses Armah Parker had previously hinted at it.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Parker expressed the club's determination to represent Ghana in Africa and break the jinx. He mentioned their approach to Gold Fields Ghana Limited for assistance in completing the stadium.
"We will represent Ghana in Africa. We are determined to break the jinx, and that is our plan. We have yet to decide where we will play our games. We have approached Gold Fields Ghana Limited to assist in completing the stadium," he disclosed on Asempa FM.
"The entire community is eager to support the completion of the stadium, but if we are unable to finish it in time, our next choice will be the Cape Coast Stadium. However, the people of Tarkwa want us to play our games there. Gold Fields has already invested a significant amount of money in the club and they are committed to helping us complete the stadium on schedule."
Having clinched their first Ghana Premier League title last month, Medeama is now preparing for their CAF Champions League campaign and has taken the necessary steps to secure a suitable home venue for the continental competition.
