Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have touched down in Ghana ahead of their crucial CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round first-leg encounter against Asante Kotoko this weekend.
The team’s players and technical staff arrived at the Kotoka International Airport early Thursday morning, where they were warmly received before heading to their hotel base in Accra.
Set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the highly anticipated clash promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the qualifying round. As per CAF regulations, Wydad will have their mandatory training session at the match venue on Saturday before the decisive showdown.
Asante Kotoko advanced to this stage after eliminating Nigerian side Kwara United in the first preliminary round. The Porcupine Warriors, who are unbeaten since the start of the 2025/26 season, will be looking to maintain their fine form against the two-time CAF Champions League winners.
The Ghanaian club had initially planned to host the fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, but CAF rejected the venue, directing the club to relocate the game to Accra instead.
With both sides aiming to secure a strong first-leg result, Sunday’s encounter is expected to be fiercely contested. Kotoko will be eager to capitalize on home advantage, while Wydad — one of North Africa’s most successful clubs — seek to establish early dominance in their quest for a group stage qualification.
The return leg is expected to take place in Casablanca next weekend, where the aggregate winner will advance to the CAF Confederation Cup group phase.
