Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC have booked their places in the final of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League following an action-packed semi-final night on Friday.
Sundowns secured their passage after a dramatic 1-1 draw against defending champions Al Ahly at the Cairo International Stadium.
Mohamed Taher opened the scoring for the hosts, but a stoppage-time own-goal by Yasser Ibrahim handed the South African side the crucial away goal they needed to progress, with the tie ending 1-1 on aggregate.
Over at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Pyramids FC edged South Africa’s Orlando Pirates 3-2 in a pulsating clash to reach the final for the first time in the club’s history. Congolese striker Fiston Mayele starred with a brace, while Ramadan Sobhi added a header as the Egyptian side overcame deficits twice in the match.
Youngsters Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota were on target for the Pirates, but their efforts weren’t enough to send the 2013 finalists through.
The final will now see Pyramids FC take on 2016 champions Mamelodi Sundowns in a two-legged showdown. The first leg is scheduled for May 24 in South Africa, with the return fixture set for June 1 in Egypt.
