Togo international Samuel Asamoah is in hospital after sustaining a serious neck injury during a Chinese League One fixture on Sunday.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who plays for Guangxi Pingguo, was rushed for emergency treatment after colliding head-first with an LED advertising board during his side’s league match.
Chongqing Tongliang Dragon defeated Guangxi Pingguo Haliao 2:0 to regain momentum. The referee, however, seemed to turn a blind eye to their rough challenges. The incident occurred when Asamoah appeared to lose his balance after a challenge from an opposing player, sending him crashing into the pitch-side signage.
Guangxi Pingguo later confirmed that the former Sint-Truiden player suffered multiple neck fractures and nerve damage as a result of the impact.
However, medical reports have raised fears that the injury could have long-term implications, with concerns over possible paraplegia. The club said Asamoah underwent emergency surgery and remains under close observation.
