Grêmio winger Francis Amuzu has suggested that a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup could yet become a reality, as he looks to build on a more settled spell in Brazil.
Ghana have already booked their ticket to the global showpiece, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the 25-year-old says he is now open and ready to represent the Black Stars.
Speaking to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, Amuzu admitted his early months at Grêmio were difficult and revealed he even considered a return to Anderlecht.
“I’ve played very little for Grêmio. So I considered going back to Anderlecht in the summer,” he said. “Anderlecht is my hometown, so it was definitely an option for me.
“I told my agent, and we were in touch, but it never materialised.”
While he and his family settled quickly off the pitch, Amuzu struggled initially for game time, spending time on the bench and, at one point, missing out on the matchday squad altogether.
His situation improved in September, however, with the winger going on to establish himself more regularly in the team.
“The league starts again next weekend. I want to continue on the same path as last season,” he added. “Who knows, I might even be able to go to the World Cup with Ghana.”
Amuzu remains under contract with Grêmio until the end of the year, though his longer-term ambition is a move to one of Europe’s top leagues.
The former teammate of Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku is now hopeful of finally earning a Black Stars opportunity, having previously turned down call-ups under former coaches Kwasi Appiah and CK Akonnor.
