Umar Bashiru, the former midfielder for Karela United and Asante Kotoko, has expressed his reluctance to return and play in the Ghana Premier League.

Bashiru enjoyed several years in the domestic top flight, featuring for West Africa Football Academy, Asante Kotoko, and Karela United.

In 2022, the 26-year-old made a move to Insurance FC in Ethiopia, where he quickly made a name for himself in the top-flight team. Following his impressive performances for Insurance FC, he has now joined Commercial Bank Ethiopia SA, a newly promoted Premier League side.

In an interview with Africa-foot.com, the devout Muslim shared his thoughts on his future in Ghana:

“I don’t know what the future will be seriously. I don’t know if I will come back and play in Ghana but to be frank, I don’t want to come back to Ghana and play again.

Umar Bashiru highlighted the challenges faced by players in Ghana and expressed his desire to retire from professional football outside of Ghana.

“That’s for a fact, I will love to retire outside Ghana but not in Ghana because if you look at the player welfare in Ghana it’s very bad, the salary, the accommodation and everything is very disgusting.

“So that’s why I said that I will love to retire in Ghana but not to play again in Ghana but like I said I don’t know what the future will be.” Umar Bashiru ended.

During his time with Insurance FC, Bashiru scored two goals and provided five assists in 27 games across various competitions before making the switch to CBE SA. He has joined forces with former Ghana Premier League star Caleb Amankwa, who joined the club from Hearts of Oak on a free transfer.
