Canadian Premier League prospect TJ Tahid took a major step toward representing Ghana after making his debut for the country's U20 side on Thursday, March 21, 2025, in a friendly match.
The Vancouver FC midfielder started the game and played 70 minutes in Ghana's narrow 1-0 loss to Morocco U20 during a four-nation tournament.
Tahid is aiming to secure a spot in the Black Satellites squad for next month’s TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
Ghana has been drawn into Group A alongside hosts Tanzania, DR Congo, and a yet-to-be-determined team from the Central African Football Federations Union (UNIFAC). The tournament is set to run from April 26 to May 18, 2025.
Tahid previously featured for Canada at the FIFA U17 World Cup in November 2023, and despite his appearance for Ghana’s U20s, he remains eligible to represent Canada in future international competitions.
“I’m incredibly grateful and honored to have the opportunity to represent my motherland and my family,” Tahid said.
