Nordsjælland assistant coach Michael Essien has admitted he rejected the chance to manage Black Stars because he was not ready for the role.



Speaking on Sporty FM, the former Chelsea FC great revealed he was offered the job at Ghana's senior national team by Otto Addo and GFA boss' Kurt Okraku prior to Addo's reappointment as head coach.



But Essien was enjoying his role at the Danish club and had no option than to decline the offer, with no other chance to join the Black Stars eventuating since.



"I would not say I refused but I was just not ready for that job.



"I was approached by Otto Addo and the president [Kurt Okraku] but I felt I was not ready."



Essien explained the regard he gets for being a former Black Stars player, indicating he was proud and at the same time sad as he wasn't able to win a trophy with the four-time Afcon champions.



"It's sad I couldn't win any trophy during my playing with the Black Stars but I am convinced the team will win a trophy soon," Essien added.
