The promising lanky defender has penned fresh terms over an extension with the Swedish elite division campaigners, with his new deal set to take him through to 2029
Ghanaian centre-back Rufai Mohammed has signed a contract extension deal with Allsvenskan club IF Elfsborg, the club have confirmed.
The 19-year-old, who teamed up with the Di Gule from Ghanaian lowly division club lnter Allies in 2024, has impressed immensely at the Borås Arena and has now been tied down to a new deal by his current employers thereby warding off any potential suitor for his pursuit ahead of the new football season.
A statement reads: ''''IF Elfsborg has agreed with Rufai Mohammed on a contract extension through the 2029 season. Rufai joined IF Elfsborg in the spring of 2024 from Inter Allies FC. The Ghanaian centre-back had visited the club the year before to train with the U19 squad. When he returned in 2024, he trained again with the U19s before being called up to the first team.
''During the 2025 season, Rufai was on loan to IFK Värnamo and now he is back in yellow and black with a new contract in place. He made 2 appearances and 1 goal during this year's cup games, and is now looking forward to the start of the Allsvenskan season.''
The budding star expressed his delight at penning a new deal with his side by telling the club's official website: ''I am very happy! I feel that last season in Värnamo gave me important experience from Allsvenskan, so now I am ready to compete seriously in Elfsborg. I will work hard and prove that I deserve to be here.''
Sporting director Stefan Andreasson added: ''After his arrival from Inter Allies in the spring of 2024, Rufai immediately took big steps in his development during his first year in our A-squad. Then the loan to IFK Värnamo was exactly what we wanted with continuous playing time, as well as continued development that means he is now ready to compete for real with us in 2026. In addition to the fact that we believe in a very bright future for Rufai, he has also shown a loyalty that now means he is being rewarded with an extended and improved contract through the 2029 season.''
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Rufai will now be in great determination to catch the eyes of the technical handlers of the Ghana FA ahead of the start of the global football event in June this year.
