The on-loan RC Lens midfielder is set to be in action for the first time for the Black Cats later this month.

Sunderland FC boss Regis Le Bris has provided an injury update on Ghana international Abdul Samed Salis, who has been sidelined since arriving at the club on the summer transfer window deadline day.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder was signed by the English Championship side on a season-long loan deal from French Ligue 1 side RC Lens on the transfer deadline day after being declared as surplus to requirements by manager Will Still.

He was later demoted to the RC Lens reserve side as the club was looking for possible suitors to acquire the signature of the Ghanaian on a permanent deal, but only Sunderland approached for a season-long loan deal on the last day of the summer transfer window.

However, Abdul Samed is yet to make his debut for Sunderland due to a muscle injury, and he has been declared fit to make his debut for the club in the coming days.

According to Regis Le Bris, the Ghanaian midfielder had to be in the treatment room for 4 to 5 months and he has finally recovered to make his first-ever appearance for the Stadium of Light outfit before the new year.

“We hope that he [Abdul Samed Salis] is very close to returning to training…he was out for four to five months,” Regis Le Bris said in his pre-match press conference.

“He is in a good place now. He should be back at the end of December.”

Abdul Samed Salis has a contract with French side RC Lens until the summer of 2028.

He's so far been cap-tied 19 times by Ghana at the senior national team level, the Black Stars.
