SC Freiburg head coach Julian Schuster has shared a hopeful update on Ghana midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh’s long-term injury recovery, expressing optimism about the player's gradual return to full fitness.

Kyereh, who has been sidelined for nearly two years due to a serious knee injury, has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines since February 2023.

The 28-year-old suffered an ACL tear during training, which required surgery and extensive rehabilitation, significantly stalling his career progress both at club and international level.

Speaking to the media, Schuster acknowledged the lengthy and emotionally demanding recovery process but praised Kyereh’s resilience and recent positive strides.

“Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has been suffering for a long time. Two years is a really long time,” Schuster said.

“Nevertheless, there have been positive moments recently. He’s mostly been playing individually. Nevertheless, he’s already participated in some of our training sessions at the start. These are moments that make us feel positive.”

Kyereh joined Freiburg from FC St. Pauli in 2022 and quickly showed promise before the injury setback. Despite the long layoff, the club has maintained faith in his abilities and his potential to make a meaningful comeback.

The Ghana international last featured for the Black Stars during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and was expected to play a key role in the national team before his injury.

While there is no fixed date for his full return to competitive action, the recent developments point to encouraging progress, raising hopes that Kyereh could return to Bundesliga action next season and potentially reclaim a spot in the Ghana national team setup.
