Following a disciplinary review by the English Football Association (FA), Ghanaian winger Mohammed Kudus has received an additional two-match ban after his altercation during West Ham’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last month.
Initially handed a three-game suspension, the 24-year-old faced further scrutiny from the FA and risked an additional three-game ban. However, following an appeal from West Ham, the FA ultimately imposed an extra two-game suspension instead of the full three.
In addition to the extended suspension, Kudus has been fined £60,000 for his conduct during the match, where tensions escalated after a confrontation with Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven.
The cumulative penalty means Kudus will serve a total five-match suspension. Having already missed the games against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, he will now be absent for this weekend’s home fixture against Everton, as well as upcoming matches against Newcastle United on November 25 and Arsenal on November 30 after the international break.
West Ham also received a £30,000 club fine, with a statement expressing disappointment in the outcome but acknowledging the FA’s disciplinary process:
“West Ham United has today (Wednesday) been notified by the Football Association of charges relating to our Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The outcome of the hearing by The FA’s Independent Panel is as follows:
- Mohammed Kudus: additional two-match suspension; fine of £60,000.
- Club fine: £30,000.
Whilst the club is disappointed with the outcome, it respects the process that has been undertaken.”
