Following Ghana's disappointment in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the subsequent removal of coach Chris Hughton, attention is now on veteran football administrator Nana Fitz.
Nana Fitz points directly at Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, holding him responsible for the team's failure instead of blaming the coach.
Ghana's early exit from the tournament mirrored their struggles in the 33rd edition in Cameroon, marking a second consecutive group stage departure. Nana Fitz, drawing on his vast experience in football administration, firmly claims that Okraku's leadership flaws are the root cause of the lackluster performance and premature elimination.
In an honest expression of his opinions, Nana Fitz emphasizes the importance of transparency, urging Ghanaians to identify the actual problem. He asserts in an interview with Peace FM, "We should tell Ghanaians the truth: Kurt Okraku and his people are the problem. Why don't you tell them they are the problem? The coach has not done anything. Who brought the coach? When you were going to bring the coach, didn't you know his ability?"
Questioning the decision-making process, Nana Fitz raises concerns about the responsibility of those who appointed the coach, directly linking the coach's performance to the leadership at the top of Ghana football. He challenges Okraku and his team, stating, "You who brought the coach, if he is not good, then the bottom line is you are also not good. Until we build a solid foundation for Ghana football, Kurt Okraku and his people have failed the nation. They cannot do it."
Expressing dissatisfaction with the coach's abrupt dismissal, Nana Fitz calls for accountability and suggests a more profound solution to Ghana football's challenges. "They have sacked the coach; they should save Ghana the agony and also resign," he declares, emphasizing the need for a reevaluation of leadership to fulfill the nation's football aspirations.
