Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo is prepared to face the challenges of the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite acknowledging that it will be a tough tournament.
Semenyo, who plays for A.F.C. Bournemouth, played a significant role in Ghana's qualification for the tournament, which is scheduled to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year. He provided an assist in Ghana's final group game against the Central African Republic (CAR) at the Baba Yara Stadium, helping Ghana secure a 2-1 victory and finish as Group E winners with 12 points.
As the tournament's kickoff date is less than four months away, Semenyo expressed his readiness to handle the pressure of competing in the AFCON. He also mentioned that it is an honor for him to represent his family and friends by playing for the Black Stars.
"It's going to be tough, but I am ready to embrace that challenge," Semenyo stated during a pre-match press conference ahead of Bournemouth's EFL Cup game against Stoke City later tonight.
He added, "For my family, it is significant. My dad played in Ghana years ago, so it is nice to represent the family and my friends as well. It is an honor."
The 34th edition of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024. The Black Stars, who have won the tournament four times in the past, aspire to end the country's 41-year trophy drought next year in Ivory Coast.
