AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu will miss the Black Stars’ crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to injury.
Salisu sustained a muscle injury during Ghana's match against Sudan in the fourth round of qualifiers, played in Libya during the October international break.
The injury has kept him sidelined, causing him to miss three important matches for his club Monaco. As a result, Ghana head coach Otto Addo has decided to exclude him from the 25-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers.
Ghana will face Angola in Luanda on November 15 before hosting Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.
The Black Stars are on the brink of missing out on AFCON qualification for the first time in 20 years. After a difficult qualification campaign, Ghana has managed just two points from four matches, having lost twice and drawn twice. They currently sit third in Group F, heading into the final round of fixtures this month.
To keep their AFCON hopes alive, Ghana must win both games against Angola and Niger while hoping Sudan falters in their remaining matches. Only then will Ghana’s qualification chances remain intact for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
