Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has lauded Inaki Williams for netting his first-ever goal for Ghana against Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday evening.
The Athletic Bilbao striker was the hero of the opening games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round when his late header ensured Ghana a 1-0 win over Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Before the match, the 29-year-old had featured in eleven games for the West African nation without a goal since switching nationality from Spain last year.
"Iñaki is a good professional. If I tell him to play in central midfield or right back, he will play there. But he is a number nine. That is his main strength," Hughton told the media after the game
Hughton also highlighted the importance of the narrow victory over Madagascar, saying that it was a big result for his team as they begin their World Cup qualification campaign.
Ghana will travel to Moroni face Comoros in their next Group H game on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
