Irish-born Ghanaian coach Chris Hughton has tasted his first-ever defeat in a competitive game as head coach of the Black Stars to Comoros in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday evening.
A 43rd minute strike from Myziane Maolida was enough to secure a historic win for Comoros against Ghana at the OmniSports Stadium in Moroni.
The victory sends Comoros to top of Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and maintained their winning streak in the qualifying campaign.
However, Ghana failed to go top of the group following the slim loss to Comoros and its the first defeat of Chris Hughton since his appointment to lead the Black Stars following the resignation of Otto Addo after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Hughton has now three matches in all competitions as Ghana coach after losing to Mexico and USA in October's international friendlies.
He was appointed by the Ghana Football Association in March 2023 in deal that runs until February 2024.
The Black Stars will now have to switch their focus to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Ivory Coast from January to February 2024.
