Ghana's coach, Otto Addo, expressed his belief that a draw against Nigeria would have been a fair outcome following their clash at the Stade de Marrakesh.
In preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars faced off against the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) runners-up on Friday afternoon.
Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring for Nigeria with a penalty in the 38th minute of the match. The Super Eagles extended their lead through Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman in the 84th minute.
Despite a late penalty conversion by Jordan Ayew, secured after Antoine Semenyo won the spot-kick, Ghana fell short, ending the game with a 2-1 loss.
Speaking to the Ghana FA website, Addo commended his team's resilience but maintained that a draw would have been a just result.
"We controlled them; we were a little bit unlucky with the finishing," remarked the 43-year-old.
"I think what killed us was their second goal because we were close to actually equalising but in all, a draw would have been deserved but like I said we lost and we have to improve and move on," he added.
Otto Addo aims to secure his first win as Ghana's coach when they face the Cranes of Uganda on Tuesday at the Stade de Marrakesh.
