Ghana’s U-17 coach Prosper Narteh Ogum says facing Ivory Coast will give his team the right challenge as they continue preparations for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations later this year.

The Black Starlets will play the Ivory Coast youth team in two friendly matches in Abidjan as part of their build-up to the tournament, which will come off in Morocco.

Both games will take place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium. The first match is scheduled for Tuesday, 28 April, with the second set for Friday, 1 May.

Ogum believes the two matches will help him better assess his squad and make final adjustments before the tournament begins.

“These matches are very important for us at this stage of our preparation,” he said on the Ghana Football Association website.

“We need strong opposition to properly assess the team and make the right adjustments before the tournament.

“Playing Ivory Coast away gives us a real competitive edge. It will test our mentality, our structure, and our ability to cope under pressure,” he added.

The Black Starlets have already arrived in Ebimpe, Abidjan, after leaving Ghana on Sunday to continue their final phase of preparations.

Ghana have been drawn in a tough Group D at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, where they will face Senegal, Algeria and South Africa in Morocco.
