Black Queens forward Abigail Kofi Kim has set her sights on making a strong impression in her debut for Ghana’s senior women’s national team as preparations intensify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The 26-year-old striker, who enjoyed a standout season with Ankara BB Fomget in Turkey, scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions, helping her side clinch the Turkish Women’s Super League title. Her prolific form earned her a maiden call-up by Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren for Ghana’s upcoming friendly against Ivory Coast.
“I’ll try my best and score as many goals as I can,” Abigail said in an interview with the GFA media team. “There were some tough games [in Turkey], but we ended up as champions. It was great to help my team reach that milestone.”
Born in Liberia and raised in the United States, Abigail has Ghanaian roots through her father and proudly identifies with her Ghanaian heritage. “My father is Ghanaian, and my brothers live there. I visited Ghana once, and it was amazing to see my family and experience the culture,” she shared.
Her inclusion in the squad comes at a critical time as Ghana gears up for WAFCON 2024, where the team hopes to secure its first continental title and stake a claim for a return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Abigail’s versatility, pace, and goal-scoring instincts make her a valuable addition to the Black Queens setup, and she is determined to bring her club-level momentum onto the international stage.
