Ghana's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has demanded the cessation of hooliganism in Ghanaian football after the devastating murder of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong, known as Nana Pooley.
Pooley was stabbed when violent clashes erupted and ruined the Ghana Premier League matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koromansah II Park.
In an interview on Asempa FM, Adams encouraged the various clubs to bolster their hierarchical systems to rak-up potential sponsors, indicating that hooliganism and loutish behaviors denigrates the game and deters investors from coming aboard.
“The clubs must improve their corporate structures and increase their visibility to attract sponsors. Without that, I don’t believe corporate sponsors will be interested,” he said.
“The act of hooliganism must stop because no brand would want to associate itself with negativity. We must find ways to make the Premier League more attractive,” he added
Simultaneously, the Ghana Police Service have taken six individuals into custody in relation to the incident.
