Ghana football legend, Asamoah Gyan has gone ruthless in revealing the real cause of the Black Meteors early exit from the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Ghana crashed out of the tournament after winning just one match, a meek 3-2 win over Congo. In their second group game they were flipped-bounced 5-1 by Morocco and exited the competition following a 1-1 draw stalemate with Guinea.

However, Gyan believes Ibrahim Tanko's affable tactical approach and lack confidence in the team, particularly our defenders who clearly did not show any sign of hunger as they were deep-pocketed by their opponents.

“Everyone understood what I tweeted [after the game]. I didn’t watch the full first two games but when you look at the things that happened against Morocco, you could see them break on the counterattack and you will see just a few defenders [of the Black Meteors] while the others are left behind jogging,” he told Asempa FM.

“It was as if they didn’t have any sense of urgency. That is where I realized there were issues. When I watched our game against Guinea, you could see individuals even struggle to put together 2-3 passes and when we lose the ball, we were not aggressive enough to win it back.

“We have the players but how to approach the game is what we lack. How do we expect to win a game like this?” he probed.

When asked to mention names of the players he was talking about in a post he made on Tweeter - reacting to the performance of the Black Meteors team, Gyan, vehemently refused to go ballistic by mentioning their names.

“I won’t mention any names but we all watched the game and you could see. I have no personal issues with anyone. Those players know themselves," he added.

With the Black Meteors exit, culminating to woes of Ghana football in recent times, Africa’s most exporter of footballers to Europe will miss the 2024 Paris Olympics.
