Ghana U17 head coach, Laryea Kingston has resigned from his role after the team's shocking 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the semi-final game of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 tournament.
Kingston resigned on Saturday after Ghana lost 2-1 in the WAFU B semifinals, missing out on qualification for next year's Africa Cup of Nations.
He expressed his unhappiness in a post-match press conference.
However, Kingston closed the news conference with an impassioned address in which he announced his resignation.
According to the former Black Stars winger, he has always given his best to the country, both as a player, representing Ghana from junior to senior level, and as a coach.
While the team was in Russia for the U-16 competition, Kingston said that he made the decision to resign. He sounded really distraught when he announced his resignation.
Appointed in April, Kingston started out as an assistant coach. They scored 54 goals in 18 games under his eighteen-month leadership, demonstrating some of the best football Ghana's young squad has to offer.
Kingston has been linked with a move to take over Hearts of Oak coaching job — a team he once wore their jersey for during his playing days.
