National Coordinator in charge of Recreation and Wellness at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Betty Krosbi Mensah, says the current Black Princesses squad has the quality to do better than previous teams.
Her comments follow Ghana’s 3–2 aggregate win over South Africa in the third round of qualifiers. The Black Princesses will now face Uganda in a final playoff for a place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland later this year.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Mensah admitted the team still has challenges but said the technical team is aware and working hard to fix them.
“The technical team is very much aware of some of these hitches and they are doing everything possible,” she said. “We realised that most often the girls do not have a lot of playing time, and that is why from December last year they were kept in camp so they could experience each other more.”

She said the long stay in camp has improved teamwork and commitment among the players.
“They will have that group, the teamwork, and understand themselves better as a team,” Mensah added. “I believe the team we have today is better than before, and I am convinced leadership has also played a big role.”
Mensah also praised Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams for his support of sports development.

“If you look at the administration of President John Dramani Mahama and the experience of Honourable Kofi Adams, it is clear they are committed to sports,” she said. “They will do everything possible to encourage, inspire and support the girls to give their best for the country.”
With one final qualifier to play, hopes are growing that the Black Princesses can secure a World Cup place and set a new standard for Ghana’s U-20 women’s football.
