Former Ghana international, Prince Opoku Bismark Polley Sampene has called on the government to prioritize investment in Ghanaian football, emphasizing the urgent need for financial support to revive the sport’s declining status.
Polley expressed concerns over the steady decline of football in Ghana, attributing it partly to the mass exodus of players to other African leagues due to the significant financial disparity between the Ghana Premier League and its counterparts. He believes that without proper investment, local clubs will continue to struggle to retain their best talents.
To address this challenge, Polley has urged the government to work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to attract sponsorship for the domestic league, which he believes would provide clubs with the necessary financial backing to retain players and enhance the league's competitiveness.
"Ghanaians love football, so I urge the government to make massive investments in our game and also help in securing sponsorship for our league. By doing so, clubs will gain the financial muscle to pay their players well," Polley stated.
He remains confident that with adequate sponsorship and investment, Ghanaian football can regain its lost prominence and become more competitive on the African stage.
