Former Hearts of Oak star David Abanga has admitted the standard of Ghana football especially the Premier League continues to decline judging in terms of quality from the previous years.

The midfield-sensation was involved in one of the biggest transfers in the history of our local game in 2007 where he joined Hearts of Oak despite receiving a huge offer and already taking signing on fee from their bitter rivals Asante Kotoko.

Abanga, featured in the Ghanaian topflight for many years including a nine-year spell with the 'Phobians' and was a member of their league winning squad in the 2008/09 season.

In an interview on Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio, Abanga said the standard has really gone down but admitted we still got football talents in the country but how grooming and developing them to international standard is our major problem as he feels our football at youth level isn't competitive again like it use to be.

"Honestly, our football keeps declining. When we compared our time to our predecessors, it was as if we weren't good and same way ours too was much more competitive than what we are seeing today."

"The quality is there but how to nurture them very well to bring their best was the problem. Our time, playing at colts level was competitive and will get you well prepared for the main league but that isn't the case now. Our juvenile football is dead."

Kofi Abanga has really announced his retirement from football but his last spell was at first division Elmina Sharks.
