Former Hearts of Oak midfielder, Kofi Abanga has gone into details what actually happened during his big transfer in 2007 who was on the radar of the two Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
Then a hot-cake, Abanga was in the news for months following the interests and offers on board after an impressive spell at Aduana Stars.
It was widely reported then that Hearts of Oak who had earlier offered Ghc10,000 for the service of the player have their bid hijacked by their eternal rivals Asante Kotoko who had also submitted Ghc150,000.
Abanga in an interview with Opemsuo Radio, detailed what really happened where he admitted he took Ghc10,000 but that was from Asante Kotoko bug still couldn't play for them because his card had already been handed to Hearts of Oak by 'Dormaahene.'
"Hearts of Oak didn't give me money, it was Kotoko that rather gave me 10,000 cedis because I signed a pre-contract with them and it was a three-year deal."
"I went for a justify at Hearts of Oak and I was selected. But due to certain issues I stayed home for long and that was when Kotoko came in and I was very close to Bantama hene. I signed for Kotoko but my card was still in Dormaa.
"But 'Dormaahene' gave my card to Hearts of Oak without my notice and I wanted Kotoko to go for my card."
Kofi Abanga enjoyed a stellar nine-year spell at Hearts of Oak and was part of their league winning squad in the 2008/09 season
