The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has acknowledged the high expectations surrounding the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Communications Director Henry Asante Twum emphasizing that the team’s technical staff is fully aware of what is at stake.
Speaking to TV3, Asante Twum noted that Ghanaian fans have consistently set high standards, citing the team’s strong performances in previous tournaments as the benchmark.
“When Ghana goes to every tournament, people are expectant. Expectations, for me, will never go down because we have a partisan crowd. We have people who love football, and they don’t care about excuses. And it’s not as if we haven’t done it before, we’ve done it before,” he said.
He highlighted past World Cup achievements, including Ghana being the only African team to reach the Round of 16 in 2006 and the quarter-finals in 2010, while acknowledging the disappointments in Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022.
“Ghana will always go into competitions with huge expectations from the people, and this, for me, will now escalate that level of expectations. But the coaches are aware,” Asante Twum added.
For the 2026 World Cup, the Black Stars have been drawn into Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia, setting the stage for another high-pressure campaign for the national team.
