The Ghana Football Association IT Director, Francis Adu, has warned that unlicensed agents are becoming a growing problem in Ghana football, putting both players and clubs at risk.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast hosted by Patrick Akoto, Adu said many people are falsely presenting themselves as agents without proper approval from football authorities.
“There are many people in Ghana who claim to be agents, but they are not,” he said.
“When you question them, they say they are ‘player managers’, which is also not recognised by FIFA or the Ghana FA.”
Adu explained that without the right licensing, these individuals can harm players’ careers, especially during contract negotiations.
“If you want to be an agent, you must follow the due process and pass the required examinations,” he said.
He warned that dealing with such unqualified people can lead to poor contracts, financial loss and career problems.
“Some of our clubs and players become vulnerable when these individuals come in,” he added.
Adu urged clubs and players to be more careful and to seek proper guidance before signing any agreements.
“I believe clubs and players must seek expert advice before entering into contracts and fully understand what they are signing,” he said.
“They need to sit up, learn more, and familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations.”
Adu’s comments show that people who are in our domestic game need to understand things better, as the Ghana Football Association keeps working to protect players and improve professionalism.
