The Black Princesses of Ghana are set to face New Zealand in their final Group E match of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia.
After suffering back-to-back defeats to Austria and Japan, Ghana’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages are slim.
However, head coach Yussif Basigi remains hopeful that his side can end the group stage on a high note with a victory.
Speaking ahead of the crucial match, Basigi expressed confidence in his team’s readiness. “We are left with our last match in the group stage and we are hoping to do well. As at now we have only one major injury concern, and that has been ruled out of the game but for the rest, they are ready’’ Basigi said.
The coach emphasized the importance of securing a win, not just for the team's morale, but also for the historic possibility of advancing past the group stage for the first time in Ghana’s history at this level.
‘’Training has been good with the hope of playing very well to win our last game. Both Ghana and New Zealand will like to finish the group stage with a good result and because of that it is going to be a very tough match’’.
‘’I think the girls are well psyched up to go all out so we can amass the maximum three points.”Basigi added.
Ghana will take on New Zealand on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali, with kick-off scheduled for 23:00 GMT.
