The former lnter Milan attacking midfielder believes the upcoming global football event in north American nations would not be all that rosy for the west African powerhouse judging from the team's preparations ahead of the start of the tournament
Former Black Stars playermaker Kwadwo Asamoah has said that he doesn't expect much from the Ghana national football team ahead of the commencement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The ex-Juventus mercurial midfielder argues that with the continuous assembling of different players in the Black Stars team by the Ghana FA technical handlers, the four-time African champions won't find things easy going into the tournament.
Nonetheless, the former Liberty Professionals FC star still feels the Black Stars team remains a force to be reckoned with on the continent when it comes to the global football stage, but facing the likes of England, Croatian and Panama in the same group makes the tournament a tricky contest for the nation.
Speaking in an interview, the 2013 Goal Ghana Player of the Year has told 3Sports: ''Honestly, I'm not expecting much, but I'm hoping for the best because Ghana has always been one of the favourites when it comes to the World Cup, among African teams, but it won't be easy.
''All these players that we are going to meet at the World Cup, majority of them are playing in the Champions League, playing for bigger clubs so to play countries like that during the World Cup won't be easy. England has been good in the past few year, having the new coach with them. They are playing very good football.
''To build a team needs time. With our national team now, I don't think we really have a starting XI. Today, it's a new team, another time, another different team. And then having a new coach won't be easy for him," he concluded.
Ghana have been paired alongside England, Croatia and Panama in group L. They will face Panama on June 18, 2026 for their group stage opener, after which they will come up against England on June 24, 2026 for their second game encounter. They then wrap up their group phase fixtures against Croatia on June 28, 2026.
