The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has refuted reports suggesting that Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have been banned from using their respective home venues.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Addo clarified that the GFA Club Licensing Committee had identified security concerns at the Legon Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Stadium, which require urgent attention.
"There have been issues with some of the safety zones, requiring additional security personnel—possibly fifty or more—on both sides to prevent unauthorized access. The goal is to install a metal gate to secure the area. We are working closely with the Ministry of Sports, the affected clubs, and facility managers to resolve these matters as soon as possible," he explained.
Addo emphasized that the decision on whether to play at their respective venues or relocate temporarily rests with the clubs.
"No one has banned Hearts of Oak from using the Legon Sports Stadium or the Accra Sports Stadium. Likewise, Kotoko has not been thrown out of Baba Yara Stadium. These are just security improvements that need to be addressed, and we are collaborating with all stakeholders to find a solution," he added.
His comments come in response to concerns after the GFA Licensing Committee deemed the home grounds of Kotoko and Hearts of Oak unsuitable ahead of the Ghana Premier League's resumption on March 7.
