Following the dismissal of the tough-talking manager, hundreds of applicants have applied for the vacant coaching role, but the two-time AFCON winner feels the indigenous manager should be the one to take up the hot seat following his track record with the four-time African champions
Ghana legend Rev Osei Kofi has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint James Kwesi Appiah as the next Black Stars coach after the sacking of manager Otto Addo.

With the reports of over 600 coaches applying for the vacant coaching role of the Ghana national football team, the former international Ghana great believes none deserves to assume the position other than the current Sudan national football team manager given his technical know-how in handling the Black Stars team.

The 1963 and 1965 AFCON winner has urged the Ghana FA to go the extra mile to ''beg him to return'' as it would benefit the nation at the impending 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Citi Sports, the 83-year-old former Asante Kotoko man said: ''If an appointment is to be made, it should be Kwesi Appiah because he understands our football culture. If we bring in a foreign coach, the person will first need time to adapt, but Kwesi Appiah already knows our style of play.''

He added: ''It would benefit Ghana if we beg him to return, especially considering how he was treated when he was dismissed. It would be right to ask him to come back. Sometimes, the way we handle issues in our football is not right."
Ghana are now in dire need of a new manager to take up the vacant coaching role as the global football event in the North American nations is set to begin in two months time.
Appiah has a proven track record with the Black Stars team after guiding them to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt as an indigenous gaffer.
