Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be shown live in the country after government support and fundraising efforts helped secure the broadcast rights.

Speaking on Tuesday, May 12, during the presentation of a GH¢5 million donation from GCB Bank to the Black Stars fundraising campaign, Adams said arrangements had been completed for matches to be aired on selected media platforms across Ghana.

“Through the support of government and fundraising efforts, we have been able to secure broadcast rights to telecast the World Cup matches live on some of the media stations,” he said.

The donation from GCB Bank is part of a wider national campaign to raise support for Ghana’s World Cup preparations ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The government recently launched a fundraising drive aimed at encouraging companies and other stakeholders to support the Black Stars before the competition begins.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

As part of preparations for the tournament, Ghana will also play friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
