Former Black Stars defender Hans Adu Sarpei has shared his thoughts on Ghana’s performances during the March international friendlies, highlighting both concerns and signs of progress.
Ghana endured a difficult outing against Austria, suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to Ralf Rangnick’s side, before putting up an improved display in a narrow 2-1 loss to Germany just days later.
Sarpei admitted disappointment over the manner in which Ghana conceded a late goal against Germany, stressing the importance of game management in crucial moments.
“Germany are a very good team, so losing 2-1 is not necessarily a bad result. However, when you are level going into the final minute, you need to fight to at least secure that one point,” he said.
Despite the defeat, the former defender praised the team’s response after the heavy loss to Austria, noting clear improvement in performance and attitude.
“After the 5-1 defeat to Austria, the response we showed against Germany was encouraging. We played much better, but there is still room for improvement,” Sarpei added.
The back-to-back defeats ultimately led to the dismissal of head coach Otto Addo, leaving the Black Stars without a manager with just 70 days to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With time running out, attention has now shifted to appointing a new coach and addressing the team’s weaknesses ahead of the global tournament.
